The barely obvious God

May 11, 2015

Why is it that every time I come to the East Coast of Florida I need to see the sunrise? God always reminds me that this fast fading flower’s time on this earth to bloom is shrinking.

This morning the sun was hidden by powerful clouds.
God hides so we seek. God shows himself obviously rarely. At least in my experience. Or maybe my god appetite lacks the correct palate to taste and see His goodness in an obvious way.  The sun is obvious. Usually. This morning as the earth bent to expose the glorious ball of fire the haze turned the fire into a light bulb on the horizon. It’s blaze hidden, subtle. Clouds hiding it’s intensity. But it’s calm glory overwhelmed the petty things that  drive my little world.
Like the sun rising over the Atlantic Ocean, God is, barely noticed, but He just is. I basically ignore God most of the time.  But he’s here. His glory hit me right between the eyes this morning.
Directly behind me, the hotel TV spits garbage. Some stupid talking head sports guy blares out some nonsense about somebody’s batting average or some other irrelavant and in contrast irreverent topic. People get sucked into listening to crap all the time.
Maybe people get sucked in it’s because the television BS is predictable.  Distracting to the distracted generation.   It speaks the language we are most comfortable with. Numbing.
Bowl over me oh God with the glory that only speaks in the silence.
